Assessing Legal Preparedness for Emergencies: An Overview of the Prevention Measures Law Assessment Tool

Overview

April 6, 2023 | 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. EST

Attend this webinar for an overview of the newly drafted Prevention Measures Law Assessment Tool. Using lessons learned from the past 12 years, including strategies deployed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the tool enables health officials and attorneys to assess their state, Tribe, local or territory jurisdictional legal authority for implementing nonpharmaceutical interventions and distributing medical countermeasures in outbreaks of any magnitude.  The tool also offers the opportunity to reflect on implementation, compliance, and enforcement of these measures, as well as the impact on health equity.

The Prevention Measure Law Assessment Tool is a draft update to the Social Distancing Law Assessment Tool originally developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Public Health Law Program (CDC PHLP) and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO).

By attending the webinar, you will:

  • obtain an overview of the guide to completing a legal assessment and the tabletop exercise that comprise the tool
  • participate in a discussion of the current draft of the tool and share your perspective on disease prevention measures

Presenters:

  • Stacie Kershner, J.D., Public Health Legal Consultant
  • Denise Chrysler, J.D., Senior Advisor, Network for Public Health Law—Mid-States Region Office
